Week 10 Discussion: As you may recall from earlier weeks,... | Psychology

As you may recall from earlier weeks, not all students will come into your course ready and excited to learn. There may be times when you teach a required course for non-majors who may not understand nor appreciate the need for a psychology course. How can you help students relate the course material to their own lives? Are there activities that would help you bridge the gap between their lives and the material? In addition, you might encounter students who are working through personal circumstances or issues that influenced their interest in psychology and affect how they respond to the cours...

attached resp12.docx Comment about this post: I believe that as society progresses adolescents and emerging adults have an increased external locus of control. This means that they put blame on outside forces on how their life is currently going. This also leads to depression and other mental illnesses because they feel like they have no control over their life. An internal locus of control is needed as well to balance these things. If you believe YOU have control over your own life it will motivate you to take risks and do things outside of your comfort zone, not what others say.

Discussion for Monday

For this chapter, I want you to focus on a significant person in your life that is NOT a member of your immediate family (no siblings or parents/grandparents). This can be a best friend, a spouse, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a coworker. I want you to analyze your relationship using some of the concepts we covered in this chapter and answer the following questions. 1). How did you meet (and was proximity involved at all)? 2). Do you feel you are similar to this person, or do you think you are in that “opposites attract” arrangement (this is possible for pure friendships, too!). 3). What is th...
