L&CP Week 2 Discusssion: Instructions Chapters 3 and 4... | Psychology

Research Requirement:

Instructions Chapters 3 and 4 introduced you to the Fourth Amendment and various aspects of searches and limited seizures, otherwise known as stops or detentions.  With these course readings in mind, consider and respond to the following questions. In light of your reading in Chapter 4, do you think that profiling is a legitimate law enforcement tool?  Why or why not? Do you think that officers should be able to detain a person solely on the basis of whether he or she fits a particular profile? Why or why not? Your textbook discussed the use of a “drug courier profile.” Should there be other types of profiles developed? If so, what types and how specific should they be?  Using the Supreme Court's definition of what constitutes a search, do you think Kyllo v. U.S. was correctly decided?  Why or why not? Now that you’ve read  California v. Greenwood in Chapter 3, has your opinion changed at all about whether the police should be permitted to search a suspect's trash?  Do you agree with the Supreme Court’s reasoning that there is no objectively reasonable expectation of privacy in one’s trash left out for collection?  Why or why not?

I appreciate your writing and the part that stood out to me was that Thorndike’s goal was that learning should lay a foundation for evidence-based educational practice. The thing I appreciate about educational psychology is that researchers study a subject, find an answer and then recognize that time changes things so they study it again a little differently or with a new component added to it.   In your paper, you stated, “Psychologists can apply this knowledge to optimize teaching methods, identify and address learning difficulties, and create supportive environments for students”. Psychology Discussion due TODAY

Jean Piaget is probably the most influential theorist in the cognitive development realm. His work has informed American educational practices since the early 1900s. Another key cognitive theorist in the realm is Lev Vygotsky. Interestingly, Vygotsky and Piaget were contemporaries (both were born in 1896), but for many years, Piaget’s theory dominated. The fact that Vygotsky died at age 37, while Piaget lived to be 84, might be part of that explanation. But Vygotsky’s ideas gained traction in the 1980s when educators began to question long held Piagetian ideas. Nevertheless, both theories are...
